Fundraising Opportunities for Team Summer Camp

March 30th, 2009

Dear Yukon Wrestling Parent(s) and Wrestler:

As the end of the school year approaches, our attention begins to turn to off-season opportunitues that will allow our wrestlers the chance to sharpen their skills before the start of our next season.  One such opportunity is the team camps our High School and Junior High Wrestlers will attend this summer.  The High School will once again travel to the University of Nebraska (July 12-16) and the Junior High will compete at the Perry JH Team Dual Camp (June 3-5).   If you are planning on wrestling for Yukon next year, it is imperative that you attend team camp.

In an effort to ease the expense of summer wrestling camp for our wrestlers, the Takedown Club is in the process of organizing several fundraising opportunities to assist each wrestler with their registration and camp cost.  We will be selling the famous Okarche Cinnamon Rolls and Baked Goods starting Monday, March 30th, thru Monday, April 13th.  Please collect the money for the products when you take orders.  Order forms and money may be picked up and turned in to Coach Schneider at LMS and the High School, or Coach Cromwell at IMS.  You may also turn them into a coach during the evening Freestyle practices (Mondays and Thursdays from 6:00 - 7:30 pm in the High School Wrestling Room).  Orders will be ready for pick-up the week of April 20th.

We are asking that you (each wrestler) sell a total of $275.00 worth of goods during this fundraiser. If you reach this goal, the Takedown Club will pay one half (1/2) of the camp fees for the High School Wrestlers, and all the camp fees for the Junior High Wrestlers.

It is not mandatory that you sell or participate in any of the fundraisers: however, if you desire assistance from the Takedown Club you must become involved with our efforts to raise funds for our summer activities.

Sincerely,

Yukon Takedown Club

Fundraising Committee

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU …….to those of you that braved the bad weather to help with the Freestyle Tournament we hosted this weekend.  We appreciate your hard work and dedication to our program! For those parents that put in a full days work at the tournament, you will be credited for those hours toward your wrestler’s camp fees. We encourage you to sell what you can, but you are not required to reach the $275.00 mark.

Round 1 State Results

February 27th, 2009

Well the Millers went 3 for 4 in the first round. Got a brief call from Coach Schneider, and here’s his rundown:

Cameron Wells decisioned Weston Slater. He now faces #1 seed Derek Steely in the semis.

Corey Duncan won by OT over Sam Wolfenberger of Tulsa Union. He was close on a couple takedowns on the edge of the mat, but couldn’t finish. However, he put it away in OT and now will face #1 seed Marcelle McVay of Muskogee.

Josh Scarber faced a setback against the Broken Arrow wrestler. He was tied 2-2 going into OT, took a bad shot, and he capitalized. Josh got the first takedown, but chose neutral in the second period instead of getting an escape.

Mike Thomas avenged a loss to Dylan Ingram of Sand Springs, by winning in OT this time. He will face Blake Rosholt in the semifinals.

Josh will wrestle at 5pm tonight, and the other three will wrestle at 7pm. Please come out and support our guys in their quest to get on the state medal stand!

Deserving of the #1 Seed

February 8th, 2009

Yukon wrestled two duals last week and came away with two more victories.  13-0 and one more to go!!

On Tuesday, Feb. 3rd, the Millers defeated P.C. North 62-3.

“We did a great job of going out and getting the win.  With that win, it made our team 7-0 in conference this year and so far a perfect 21-0 for the past three seasons in the Metro Athletic Conference.  I couldn’t be more proud of the way our guys have wrestled this season.”

Thursday, Feb. 5th, Yukon traveled to Del-City to contend against the Eagles and prove to everyone that the Millers deserve to be seeded #1 on the west side of the state.  Yukon has only lost four duals in the past three seasons and two have come at the hands of Del-City.

“I really like how our kids battled in such a hostile environment.  The match started at 1:30 and all the students were let out of class to attend.  With our team down 0-17 after the first four matches, I knew we needed to get things going if we wanted to have a chance to win the dual.  I feel that these young men have rallied all year long and really done a great job of sticking together as a team, that in turn has brought about a great deal of success.  Our guys have realized they are not only fighting for themselves, but also for their team and for the town of Yukon. ”

Be sure to come support the Millers in the first round of Dual State, Friday night at 8:00pm, as they take on Broken Arrow at Western Hights High School.
